Where we came from
History
SLIST started in Mexico City on July 10, 2021. Saimon Sekta, a New Yorker there as a tourist, wanted one weekly list of the city's electronic music events, so he started a private Instagram account that collected them.
The list soon became more than a list. It began curating parties and reviewing them honestly. Most promoters took the criticism well, including the ones being criticized, and the feedback started to raise the standard of local parties. SLIST then began giving away guest list spots, which is how most of the city first heard of it.
In February 2023, after a year and a half in Mexico City, Saimon moved back to New York. Two things kept the project going. A public WhatsApp group, Chismé, held on to the Mexico City community, and a new Instagram account, SLIST NYC, started doing the same work for New York.
Chismé went viral. It became the place for self-promotion, scene gossip and guest lists, and SLIST became the largest guest list platform in Mexico City, running giveaways for some of its biggest raves. It was also the most controversial one.
In New York a group chat started in March 2023, and the first SLIST party followed in December 2023 in SoHo. SLIST has thrown its own nights in New York since, and now throws them in Brooklyn.
The honesty that built the project also made enemies. Five organized campaigns have tried to cancel SLIST, three in Mexico City and two in New York, and each one ended with a bigger community and stricter house rules. The full account is in the lore.
