Most collectives talk about growth like it’s a marketing problem. More followers, bigger headliners, shinier production. SLIST operates on a fundamentally different premise: growth is a values problem. Get the values right and the growth follows. Get them wrong and no amount of Instagram reach will save you.
Here’s the framework.
State the vision. Don’t apologize for it.
Dark art is naturally abrasive, and we don’t shy away from it or sanitize it for commercial appeal. We accept our nature, embrace controversy, and spark healthy discussion. Critics are inevitable — and necessary. People need to talk, share stories, and engage in real dialogue. Our platform doesn’t just disseminate art. It sparks debate, introspection, and an exchange of ideas — things long missing from this industry.
If this ethos resonates with you, get involved, support us, or simply enjoy the content casually. Everyone is welcome. The only requirement is honesty.
Community moves first
Our people are everything. We don’t move unless everyone moves with us. Open-door policy, always — listening to and encouraging community involvement. Share flyers. Submit content. Join the DJ directory. Tell us what needs improving in the group chat. We adapt our work to the underground scene and the growth of our brand continuously.
We don’t care if a decision looks “unorthodox” or isn’t industry-approved. If it meets our community’s needs, we do it. Stagnation is death.
Ethics are non-negotiable
Too many in this industry climb over each other for a little clout or a quick buck. From day one, we’ve refused to play that game. Our connections are built on mutual respect and love for what we do. We make sure our people are cared for, and everyone is uplifted. No exceptions, no convenient compromises.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously
We acknowledge life’s absurdities and have fun with them. Sometimes we indulge in playful mischief. Is it excessive at times? Maybe. But we’re real people with real experiences, not a faceless corporation. Art is personal, and like-minded individuals can see themselves reflected in it.
Merit over status
We promote artists based on merit, not status. Many collectives just book the biggest names with no clear vision. People assume Instagram followers or Spotify numbers equal quality — wrong. We keep things fair for artists regardless of who they are. If you fit the vibe, you fit the vibe. If we see your potential, we’ll do everything we can to help you succeed.
Big-name artists reach out to us because they want to be part of what we’re building. That’s not to say we don’t appreciate larger acts — many of them truly deserve their recognition. But name recognition isn’t our focus. Our vision and values are. SLIST events are SLIST events, not [insert famous DJ here] events.
